Game Plan

Friday, November 9th, 2012

I love NPR’s list of why we love making lists. Lists provide order. They help us focus. They are finite.

I’ve spent some time making a list of things this off season holds. The variety is rediculous. Some of the items are for me. Some are for others. Some are work, others are fun. But I wanted to just grab a cup of hot chocolate [with peppermint whipped cream], a pen and a notebook and just get it out. All of the things I want to accomplish. All of the people I want to spend time with. The books I want to read. The goals I have. Anyway, here we go. My game plan for the off season…

Albums // I’ve decided to change album companies. After recieving the swatches from my new company, I’m so convinced I’ve made the right choice. After a year with Vision Art Albums, I’ll be using RedTree Albums for my clients. Over the next month or so, I need to order two sample albums, and finish ordering client albums.

Client Welcome Packet // There are certain things I’d like to integrate into my business in the next year. One is a client welcome packet – this will be full of things such as sample timelines, advice, and tips from me and past clients. These are things that will help educate my brides and help them make informed decisions. I haven’t yet decided if this will be a digital packet, or a printed book – we’ll see.

Books // I’ve been starting too many books lately. I need to start finishing books. My unfinished books are: Billy Graham by Stanley High, Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas, and How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Get. It. Done.

New Home // I have wall paper to remove, paint to match, and three rooms to paint [and therefore three paint choices]. Not all of this has to be finished before we move in, but I want to paint at least one room before we do.

Business Clean-Up // After a year of shooting, my busiest year yet, I have some cleaning up to do. Loose ends to tie. I’d love to submit a few of this year’s weddings, finish collecting print orders, clean out my email, and organize my office. Just things to allow me to reclaim sanity in my professional life.

Rebrand // Threefifteen Design has been working her little butt off on my brand. I shared my inspiration board with y’all, and I can’t wait for the next steps. I’m going to have a brand new website, thanks to Showit. I can’t wait to keep chugging along, writing website text, picking portfolio images, and start using PASS to share images with my clients. Then, soon after my new brand launches around the new year, I’m going to revamp my blog using all of the new brand elements. SO excited. There are good things coming.

Holiday and Hawaii // That’s right. The Holidays and Hawaii are right around the corner, and I can’t wait for a legit vacation. They only come around every few years, and Hawaii is a place that has my heart. The surf, the island life, the Aloha spirit – and this year, I’m bringing a point and shoot, and a film camera. Now, I’m not going to start shooting film at weddings – it totally violates my “simplicity” rule. But for fun and for developing my creativity, it’s time to break out my dad’s 35mm and shoot the islands. I also plan on doing some crafting – two are in the bag for now – I’ll be sure and blog them when I finish.

Work Out // That’s about the end of that – high intensity, keep eating salads, keep getting stronger and leaner and meaner! Just kidding. Not meaner.

Brian + Marcy | Richmond Virginia Portraits

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

I microwaved Friday’s left over curried chicken. Chad might be upset when he gets home because the house will, yet again, smell like curry. Sitting on the couch under my fleece Redskins blanket, I went back and forth between blogging Marriage Monday or blogging Brian and Marcy. I think because I miss them already, I chose to blog the sweet couple.

Brian and Marcy are not engaged. In fact, their first date was right around the time Chad and I moved to Charlottesville which was almost one year ago. But this couple is one of my favorites. When Chad and I moved away to Richmond, we only had a few things holding us back from actually making that decision. Marcy and Brian were one of them. Marcy is a photographer, and Brian is a graphic designer/audio tech guy for Portico Church. They are intentional with each other, and I love to see the ways in which they encourage each other, build up one another, and stay spiritually connected. At the same time, they are SO able to joke around with each other. They make whatever room they’re in, funner [yes... funner].

I expressed the desire to want to practice posing and Marcy said she and Brian wanted some professional portraits together! So, the obvious was planned. They came over the other night to have dinner and allow me to shoot their portraits. Although, I didn’t have much to practice with because they are SO comfortable in front of the camera. You’ll see what I mean. They just WORKED it. B&M, miss y’all already!

I love it when guys know when things are being taken too seriously…BAHAHAHA. [Brian, don't hate me. This brings joy to my life...]

Marcy doesn’t have a “good side.” EVERY ANGLE is good.

As I was walking away, Brian decided to pick up Marcy and spin her around. I’m so glad I decided to snap these next two. The second one MIGHT become a canvas…
