Jacqueline | Richmond Virginia Portraits

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

The girls I met at CDIA are such an encouragement. I don’t know how to appropriately express my love for them, how much I love their work, and how much I want to keep them in my pocket so that we can share jokes, photography stuff, and, because we’re girls, clothes. We’re so different in our styles, but I have such a deep appreciation and love for their work!

Jacqueline one of these ladies. She is a wedding photographer based in DC, getting ready to make a huge move with her husband across country in a few months. I had the huge honor of shooting her wedding [it was one of the most beautiful weddings I've been to; Style Me Pretty picked it up!], and when it came time for her to update her portraits on her website, we decided to swap sessions. We used Richmond as our backdrop, including Can Can, a little french cafe in Carytown. Be sure you check out her work. Not only her wedding portfolio, but also her travel and lifestyle work. Girl’s got skills.

*Just as a note, some of these are edited with VSCO Film Presets. I’m still playing around with them, but let me know what you think!*

I was so inspired by this Anthropologie skirt! Such great movement.

Had me at hello…

Abby | Charlottesville Maternity

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Abby and Josh are welcoming their little baby boy in November. I shot their wedding a little over a year ago, so I was so excited to do their maternity shoot. We ventured down Ivy Road and found some spots to capture Abby and her boy[s]. This is so wonderful — it is my first friend [who lives close by] to have a baby. I remember their wedding day. I remember when they told us they were pregnant. I remember watching her belly grow [not much else, though, Abby... not fair!]. I’ve enjoyed learning about pregnancy and babies, and I can’t wait to hang out with her little dude! Baby watch starts in just 3 weeks, and it’s going to be epic!!

Shannon | Senior Portraits

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

I am so excited to show these. Partly because I’m RELATED to this beautiful girl. And also because I love the beach. So much. When Shannon send me a facebook message asking if I could do her Senior Portraits at Virginia Beach, I got SO excited. Beaches have so much wonderfulness packed into one setting. The sand is a crazy big reflector, the grass is a beautiful defuser, and the water is a perfect cool contrast to the orange sunset. Not to mention, I love working with high schoolers because they pay attention to style, watch popular TV shows [like America's Next Top Model], and are so easy going! Plus I get to feel like a kid again! Or, at least younger than 25 [gulp]. I got so many new outfit ideas from Shannon–I just need to fit *shopping spree* into my budget… Anyway, please enjoy these photos. Let me know your favorites, and tell where YOUR favorite location is!

This is what happens when you ask someone not to smile. They bust out laughing. And that is exactly what I wanted :)

And down to the beach…

SHOT OF THE DAY! GoodNESS look at those eyes. Er…eye.

Love this natural smile!

Andrew | Newborn

Friday, July 15th, 2011

A ton of my friends are pregnant. I guess it is the next big thing in life once you get married! Ricki and Ben found out they were pregnant, and 9 months later welcomed little Andrew into the world. I had a very short visit with him, but saw about a million different faces. Ricki explained that he takes a LONG time to wake up. I mean, how long could a little baby take? Well. He stretches, and blinks, and goes cross-eyed, frowns, smiles, and stretches some more, then goes back to sleep for a little… and the process starts over again. It is amazing that God can create something with so much personality at only a few days old!

Congrats, Ricki and Ben! Andrew is a trip, and I can’t wait to see him grow up!

Fine Art Books

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Having just officially started shop in July 2010, I have been wanting to land on an album company. I wanted my clients to be excited about the quality of the craftsmanship as well as the uniqueness of the style, but also to be excited about the price. I made one of my goals at WPPI 2011 to be to find an album company who would meet those needs. Well, I found one.

These are not so much albums as they are Fine Art Books. I would describe them as Fine Art Books because they are far less bulky than your traditional album and they are printed on museum quality, matte, fine art paper. This combination makes each page you turn an experience. Here are some photos of the studio samples I have to show clients.

Dulce Bookcloth, show with engraving.

Cafe Leather

Full Photo Wrap

If you are a previous client, did not have this option available for you, and are interested in ordering a Fine Art Book, please inquire about options and pricing!

3D Me

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Ever have an idea, perhaps not an original, but just something you’d like to try? That is where this came from.

*You will need some cyan/red glasses to see me in 3D*

Thanks goes to these three brilliant photographers, equipment gurus, and science lovers.

Phyl | Wilmington North Carolina Portraits

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I received a semi-frantic Facebook message from Jen.  Phyl, her 14 year old Warmblood mare would be leaving her on Sunday.  Jen has had Phyl since high school [she is now 3.5 years out of college].  Phyl went to Virginia Tech with Jen, to Georgia after graduation, and now to Wilmington. But on Sunday, Phyl will go back up to Virginia to be ridden and loved by a younger generation of Horse Girls.

It kind of sounds silly. I mean, it is after all, only a horse.  But I know how hard it is to say goodbye.  Anyway, I did what any best friend [who happens to also be a photographer] would do. I drove to Wilmington, NC and did a portrait session with Jen and Phyl. Oh. And the little black and white cutie? That’s Jake.  Him too.

What a precious little family!

This is the only girl you’ll meet who loves zebra print and camo equally.

I was shooting Jen, and turned around and saw little Jake looking like this:

For fun…

2010 | Best Of part 2

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

This is just a little wrap up post.  I can’t wait to share with you what is ahead in posts to come.  I just got back from a completely relaxing–what my husband and I are calling–*Christmas-New-Moon.*  We didn’t take a honeymoon right after our wedding in October, so we took the Holiday to do so.  Anyway,  here are more of my 2010 brides…

2010 | Best Of part 1

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Can you believe that this year is almost over?  The year in review puts life in perspective.  How quickly we forget.  How quickly things change! I’ve had a wonderful year with ups and downs, but so many people have had a really tough one.  Job losses, natural disasters, death… but I’m convinced we can’t focus on those things… remember and respect? Yes.  But I would rather focus on that which is so wonderful.  The blessings we are given are what keeps us going.  Marriage is one of life’s biggest changes AND blessings.  This year, I was able to photograph some of the most beautiful weddings [as well as experience my own]!  Here is Part 1 of 2 of the wonderful celebrations…

Gretchen | Northern Virginia Portraits

Friday, December 17th, 2010

I can’t remember the exact moment when I met Gretchen, but I do remember our first phone conversation.  It was about keys.  I had signed a lease to be the 9th girl to live in a huge house in our college town.  Gretchen was the girl in charge of the money and the keys.  I wanted to get into the house to move some of my stuff in, but for the life of me, I could not open the door.  The key was supposed to unlock the front AND back door.  But it just sat there in the key hole.  Staring at me.  And my anxious parents.  We had driven 2 hours to move my things in the house and we couldn’t get the door open.  So I called Gretchen.  She assured me that this happens a lot, and you just have to work it.  We did. And finally, in we went.

Gretchen, I learned, is SO funny.  She has a great sense of humor, and has the ability to deflate any heated situation with her words.  And her words are what makes her newest accomplishment so much fun.  Honey I Shrunk the Gretchen is her blog, and it is a weight loss blog.  It is real. It is full of laughs, tears, successes, and not so successes.  To Gretchen, there really isn’t any such thing as failing.  She does this thing at her own pace, and so far, her own pace has been a loss of 35 lbs.  Start following her!  It is a hysterical read, and a dose of reality as she  works to conquer laze, cravings, illness, and living in a city where there is great food all around.

I went up to Northern Virginia and did a portrait session with Gretchen a few weeks ago.  She rocked it…

Before our shoot, I told Gretchen to “amp it up.”  Wear the shoes you’ve never worn.  That lip color that is almost too bold.  Well, she ba-rought it.  Get it, girl!

The shoes?  And I quote, “I’ve never worn these outside of the house.” So cute.

This is a girl who has lost weight, “This is my favorite ice cream store.”

And the furry friends…

I can’t wait until our session in the spring!
