Alex + Ashleigh | Ellanor Lawrence Park Engagement Session

Friday, May 18th, 2012

Alex and I knew each other when we were younger. We haven’t really talked since high school, but I was so excited to receive an email from him telling me that he was engaged to a girl named Ashleigh and looking for a wedding photographer! We met up in Charlottesville and talked about their wedding, which, by the way, is going to be so beautiful. I’m so excited about it, especially after meeting and spending time with Ashleigh. She is SO gorgeous, and these two are so cute together. They are such great complements to one another. Thanks for hanging with me yesterday, y’all! Hopefully you guys didn’t get any ticks when I made you crawl threw the tall grass!

I love that necklace! A gift from Alex… so good!

Those eyes. I love this photo.

And I love these too.

Claudia + TR | Snowy Northern Virginia Wedding

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

The only bride I’ll ever meet who was glad it snowed on her wedding day. A wedding that was supposed to be outside. Because TR proposed on the ski slopes, she was happy to have the snow as a little reminder. She giggled as she told me how he fell a few times and was afraid, not that he’d lost it, but that he might have broken it. I learned through a teary speech from the the best man and brother of the groom just how perfect these two are for each other. They seem to bring out the best. Claudia and TR, congrats!!

Thanks to Landsdowne for the beautiful setting and Melissa Schwartz Jones for the Bridal Party’s hair and make-up.

LOVE the photo of Claudia and her dad captured by my second, Sarah.

I heard lots of “Black and Yellow” type songs…HERE WE GO.

A girl can always use a good spinning dress…

Halley + Kevin | Old Town Alexandria Engagement

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

We planned to meet for a client meeting. Halley had the BRILLIANT idea to do not only a client meeting, but also an engagement session. It had snowed the day before. Using the Starbucks on Union and King as our warm retreat, we strolled around Alexandria and chatted, shot, got to know one another… and shivered! Kevin and Halley met each other through a mutual friend from their Florida university. They hit it off, and now here they are planning a Charlottesville wedding! Congrats on your engagement, you two!

Scott + Melissa | Second Shooter

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

I love Kristen Finn. Like, a lot. I met her about two years ago at CDIA. Kristen has a love for good design and food; two things she photographs with PASSION. And I think that is one thing she and I have in common, and why I love second shooting with her. She loves the little things. In fact, we usually have several pow-wows through out the evening where we comment on the look the bride gave the groom during the speech, or the beautiful necklace on the mother of the bride, etc. It really is the small things that make wedding photography fun.

Kristen and I shot Melissa and Scott’s Ashburn, VA wedding [click on the link to see her images!] together a few months ago. It is so beautiful there–golf courses galore. Here are some things I took away from shooting with Kristen

  1. Just Try It. Kristen is awesome at trying new ideas in portraits, lighting, and posing.
  2. Be Friendly. I learned this about Kristen much earlier–she is just so friendly. Melissa wasn’t her just client, she was her friend she made while shooting her wedding!
  3. Take Time. When she shoots, she makes sure she takes the time to get the shot right.

Here are a few of my shots from our portrait session:

Andrew | Newborn

Friday, July 15th, 2011

A ton of my friends are pregnant. I guess it is the next big thing in life once you get married! Ricki and Ben found out they were pregnant, and 9 months later welcomed little Andrew into the world. I had a very short visit with him, but saw about a million different faces. Ricki explained that he takes a LONG time to wake up. I mean, how long could a little baby take? Well. He stretches, and blinks, and goes cross-eyed, frowns, smiles, and stretches some more, then goes back to sleep for a little… and the process starts over again. It is amazing that God can create something with so much personality at only a few days old!

Congrats, Ricki and Ben! Andrew is a trip, and I can’t wait to see him grow up!

Nic + Silvia | Northern Virginia Wedding

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

“The entire Campaña family!” I shouted above the excitement. The sanctuary of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church was buzzing because the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Campaña had married Nic only minutes earlier.

“Is this your first cuban wedding?” One of the guests, and member of the family asked me, slightly smiling. Yes. It was. I think he was making fun of the fact that I had no idea what I asked for when I asked for the ENTIRE Campaña family…

Although the church was loud and everyone was cheering, you can’t help but notice Silvia and Nic’s quiet love. Silvia is the oldest of three sisters, but she is not your typical “run the show” older sister… [No offense, older sisters. Feel free to poke fun at only children]. She is the definition of patient and kind, and was one of the most easy going brides I will probably ever work with. “The light is nice outsite… want to go take some pictures?” “Sure!” Nic is fun–up for anything type of guy, and the perfect addition to Silvia. They are so sweet and gentle together. Anyway. Back to what I was saying. I am not sure about other Cuban families, but there are like, a million Campañas. The photo turned out wonderful, but it was funny watching as 30…40…50 people slowly strolled up onto the altar to take the family photo. “Is that it?” “No!!!”

It was my first Cuban wedding. But definitely not my last!

Check out Dad’s suit. Tails and all–100% inspired by Prince Harry’s attire at the royal wedding. So chic!

Joy + Terry | Northern Virginia Wedding

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Well, I think the heading is a little misleading. Joy and Terry were already married when they threw this reception. They had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL wedding in St. Lucia earlier in April, and came home to throw a big party with their closest friends and family! And what a party it was! There was so much dancing, especially with Mr. Scott West as the DJ [It was a pleasure working with you, sir!].

Joy works at Potomac Hospital, and Terry is the owner of a wonderful jewelry store in Occoquan, VA called Quinn’s. [Check it out, ladies... for real.] The two are so adorable together; like kids! They laugh and tease and play, but most of all, they smile. I don’t think I took but two photos of Joy not smiling. The evening at Harbor View was sprinkled with tropical decor and bright colors plus photos of their wedding.  Cheers to you lovebirds! Enjoy France…or Germany… whenever you go!

Stunning.

Cake: Cakes by Design [Debbie made my wedding cake! mmmm...]  Catering: R&R Catering [yum!!!]  And the ring. OH the ring. So beautiful…

Benny gave the gift of Hula to the couple. He is an amazing dancer…

Seriously. All smiles.

2010 | Best Of part 2

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

This is just a little wrap up post.  I can’t wait to share with you what is ahead in posts to come.  I just got back from a completely relaxing–what my husband and I are calling–*Christmas-New-Moon.*  We didn’t take a honeymoon right after our wedding in October, so we took the Holiday to do so.  Anyway,  here are more of my 2010 brides…

2010 | Best Of part 1

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Can you believe that this year is almost over?  The year in review puts life in perspective.  How quickly we forget.  How quickly things change! I’ve had a wonderful year with ups and downs, but so many people have had a really tough one.  Job losses, natural disasters, death… but I’m convinced we can’t focus on those things… remember and respect? Yes.  But I would rather focus on that which is so wonderful.  The blessings we are given are what keeps us going.  Marriage is one of life’s biggest changes AND blessings.  This year, I was able to photograph some of the most beautiful weddings [as well as experience my own]!  Here is Part 1 of 2 of the wonderful celebrations…
