See You Soon, San Diego!

Friday, April 19th, 2013

This trip is a very obvious and tangible example of how my husband blesses me. When we got married, I remember expressing my desire to take was one of our vacations to San Diego. It’s a great place, but more than that, my Grandpa lives there. So at the end of this past year, we decided that this would be the year we’d go visit Grandpa and Anne! Spending time with family is starting to mean so much these days. So then why does it seem to be so hard to adjust your priorities? Anyway, we’re doing it. Both of us are pretty excited to have time “off” from work [Chad gets to actually leave work, and I'll be on email's when I can!] and time to spend with family and some good friends!

Grandpa Z, J., and Jen, we’re coming for you!

The Grimes Family | Richmond Family Portraits

Friday, October 26th, 2012

What a fun session this was! I have to say, I was a little nervous – 15+ people are hard to control. To get everyone to look at the camera, sit still, be quiet, and then to pose them… phew. My mind was racing as I was driving to the shoot. But this family had it together – even if they don’t feel like it. They all arrived in a cute outfit – each somehow complemented the other. Mrs. Grimes let me know that she had chosen 4 locations, so we set off to check out the lighting [which was perfect in all 4 locations!]. This session was a gift from the family to their mom, but it really was for everyone. Each Thanksgiving, Mom grabs a camera and pulls everyone together for their Christmas card photo. This year the kids took charge and relieved mom of her duty by giving her a family photo shoot! In my opinion, it’s TOTALLY  worth the money!

Tiffany | Northern Virginia Maternity

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

“I’m not surprised,” she said as she explained that we would have to postpone our shoot because of a breeched baby and a herniated disc. “Dramatic things tend to happen around our big life events.” Despite the odds, we got our shoot in only 4 days before little Mackayla was born.

Tiffany is an old friend from middle school. 6th grade! We lived down the street from one another, and I’d frequently go visit Tiffany and her pet bunny. Thanks to Facebook, we reconnected, and there I was shooting her maternity photos! This past Saturday made these photos “old news” when baby girl made her way into the world. But here they are – excited to go back and shoot little miss Mackayla in a few weeks!

LOVE the little bows. This nursery is SO little surfer girl.

Best dressed mom award.

Of course the pups…

The Adorable Threes | Woodbridge Virginia Family Portraits

I’ve known Lindsay’s family… ehem. Let me start over. They’ve known me since I was born. Lindsay’s mom taught me when I was in preschool. My dad water skied with her dad and brother. Her dad was my shop teacher in middle school. Since I became old  enough to really appreciate the concept of family, I’ve loved watching how this family grows and how they love on each other. It is so rare these days. This was the third year I’ve done family portraits in the fall for the Kelsey’s. Makenzie turned 3 this fall. She has an amazing personality and is so fun to watch. Here are a few Makenzie-isms I picked up:

  • She wants EVERYONE to be in the photo. And she wants them to kneel.
  • I asked her to say “Hi!” instead of “Cheese” to get a more natural smile. Makenzie went on to teach this to the rest of her family, getting in front of the camera and immediately saying, “HIIII!!!!”
  • She likes to accessorize. Especially with bracelets.
  • She is generous; she even painted me a picture. My first gift from a client!
  • For the past two years, has let us know she is finished taking photos by squatting down and ignoring direction.

Love her. Please enjoy this adorable 3 year old and her family!

Cassandra + Colton | Family Portrait

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

One of the perks as a photographer is family vacations. This being the first, I am still excited at the potential of next year’s portrait opportunities. I couldn’t decide if I would take out my camera “on vacation” or not. But I couldn’t help it.

Meet my Aunt Cassandra and Uncle Colton. They are the super couple in my opinion. They met at UNC, got married, and live in North Carolina. They have kept their love for one another and child-like humor in tact. Aunt Cassandra has an amazing young presence; she is beautiful, and looks adorable in anything [jealous!]. Uncle Colton is your everyday Carolina Boy. I’m not sure what that means, but when people mention Carolina, I think of Uncle Colton. His cool, calm, and collected presence, his ability to deal with any situation with grace, his Tar Heel obsession, and that subtle southern drawl. He has the most contagious laugh. EVER. This is just another branch of my family. Enjoy them as much as I do.

Andrew | Newborn

Friday, July 15th, 2011

A ton of my friends are pregnant. I guess it is the next big thing in life once you get married! Ricki and Ben found out they were pregnant, and 9 months later welcomed little Andrew into the world. I had a very short visit with him, but saw about a million different faces. Ricki explained that he takes a LONG time to wake up. I mean, how long could a little baby take? Well. He stretches, and blinks, and goes cross-eyed, frowns, smiles, and stretches some more, then goes back to sleep for a little… and the process starts over again. It is amazing that God can create something with so much personality at only a few days old!

Congrats, Ricki and Ben! Andrew is a trip, and I can’t wait to see him grow up!

My Newest Hobby

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

It all came out when I was looking for a wedding venue. I knew I wanted to have a very relaxing wedding day. I wanted a country feel. To be surrounded by the sounds of birds and tall grasses. When we settled on Bristow Manor, I emailed my bridesmaids, “This is where we’re getting married!” Little did I know that my Matron of Honor would receive two emails with the same link. One from me, and one from her mother. Her mom’s read, “This is where your great grandmother used to live.”

Clearly this was awesome. Suddenly a shot in the dark with a venue had turned into something so sweet and meaningful! I loved having so much history involved, and on accident! I even got to wear Vivi’s necklace, thanks to Riva’s mom [Vivi's grandaughter]. It was just awesome having all of this “coincidence” in the days leading up to my wedding.

Since finding all of this out, I’ve become very intrigued by Riva’s family history. My newest hobby, if you will. Here is one more snippet I’ve learned…. Because I’ve done a Billy Graham post in the past, I though this particular piece is pretty awesome…

The same article is quoted, along with a passage from Billy Graham: His Life and Influence by David Aikman.

So cheers to history, friends, stories, faith, and the beautiful tapestry our Creator is weaving together. I love ya, Riva! Thanks for being an awesome matron of honor, and a true best friend.

Waiting

For those of you who don’t know, BB&T holds The Williamson’s fate in their hands. Well, sort of. My husband works for BB&T and has been training in Winston Salem since July. In May, we pick up and move to an undisclosed location. Today, Chad and I are told our “orders,” as my mom calls it. Our next home. PLACEMENT DAY.

We are SO excited about the news, a little nervous, yet totally sure that the Lord will have us placed where HE wants. It is, after all, in His hands. “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” I am reminded by Hebrews 11:8 that I too am going to the place where God has called me [us] and right now, I have NO idea where that could be.  Abraham’s inheritance happened to be a whole race of people, land, and offspring like whoa. In a way, the Lord is giving us a people as well. A community to care for and to come along side of–he has been preparing this and will provide us with new friends and family, and a place to call home… wherever it is…

The footprint of possibilities is the whole SOUTH EAST! From Maryland to Texas to Florida. If you read this, please comment with your guess of where you think they’ll place us. If you guess correctly, there may be a fun surprise for you come Monday [Yes, I'm waiting to reveal the location on Monday!] Let the guesses begin…

The Barfields | Northern Virginia Portraits

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

This portrait session with adorable little Nathaniel almost didn’t happen.  I have temporarily moved to North Carolina, and Amy e-mailed me right after I had moved down.  I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to make it back up to NoVa before a good “make, order, print, and mail” Christmas Card time.

BUT! I made it.  We planned to meet at a mutual friend’s house right on the Potomac River.  She has a dock, a big yard, and some really fun toys for little Nate to play with.  When we booked, it was…70 degrees?  But that December day was 35…ish. And windy. And TONS of big clouds moving quickly.  Not the conditions I would have ordered if asked.

BUT! Amy, Nate, and little Nathaniel worked it.  Amy is due with a new little boy in January and walked around in the grass in heals for 2 hours.  I am totally impressed.  Nathaniel probably thought we were all crazy.  And he reached the point of just saying, “no” to anything we suggested.

BUT! We got some great shots and had a blast… especially after we thawed out.

Amy, you’re beautiful!

LOVE the expressions!

And OH the curls!
