Bridal Health + A Feature

Friday, January 4th, 2013

I’m just over it. All of the truffles, cookies, candy canes, baked breads, and the stockings stuffed with candy. My body hates me, I’m more lethargic, and I’m finding more and more squishy on me the more I indulge.

Early last fall, I got a call from Lora Kelley, editor and stylist, to shoot a feature for The Wedding Planner on bridal health, and with the release of the magazine, the end of the unhealthy eating season, and the start of the new year, I think it is a WONDERFUL time of year to post about BRIDAL HEALTH!

During the summer through December, I was working out with a personal trainer and became super passionate about it. I have strong feelings about being healthy and about what goes into my body. When you learn what an over abundance of certain foods do to your body, it just starts to “eat” at you. [Pun intended]. As a wedding photographer, someone who photographs a girl looking her best for 8+ hours, I feel TERRIBLE sending brides chocolates, cookies, or something as a “gift.” I want to encourage them to take care of their body! Not only for their wedding day, but for life! So, since produce might start rotting by the time it gets to their front door, this article by Jodi Esselstyn from Clay Fitness is a perfect first step to help brides keep it right!

So brides, pick up a copy of The Wedding Planner! Indulge in this smoothie recipe that tastes like CANDY. I tried it – it’s AMAZING. It’s green, but tastes like it should be a jolly rancher flavor. Also, holler to Adam Barnes Photography, MY wedding photographer, who shot the cover!

I want to say a few words about the shoot! Thanks to Clay Fitness in Charlottesville for letting us use their fitness studio! Lora, her assistant, and I had so much fun styling these little fruits! I could totally see myself going in the editorial direction one day! ONE day…

RECIPE

1/2 cup mango
1/2 cup peach
1-2 cups diluted orange juice
2-3 handfuls of baby spinach or cooked kale
1/2 non-fat greek yogurt

Add what ever else you’d like and BLEND!

Borrowed & Blue is one of those websites that you can get lost in. It is so deep, and a great resource for brides planning weddings in any one of the 4 local areas they cover. I love it because their photos are big and they have a totally different format than most wedding blogs. This past year I had the honor of capturing Sarah and Ilya’s wedding in Charlottesville. I’m excited to have their wedding featured on Borrowed & Blue’s blog. Check it out – spend some time!

When people come to JMU’s campus, either as a prospective student or to visit for other reasons, their main take-away is that people are just so friendly. They hold doors. They smile at you. And while my grandparents waited for me on campus, they had a student randomly buy them coffee. People are just nice! It is like this huge family that spans over 100 years.

Madison Magazine helps the feeling of camaraderie. It connects all levels of students – past, present, and future. There are stories about what’s going on at JMU presently, what changes are in the future, notes and advice for prospective students, and of course, who is getting married and having babies. But most importantly, who is getting married – ha!

When a JMU student gets married, they typically rent Road Dawg, a replica of the Duke Dog statue who travels around to weddings, mainly for a photo-op. Jordan and Sam had the largest turnout of JMU students at their wedding I’ve ever seen, and their photo made it into the Magazine to celebrate Road Dawg’s birthday! YAY!

Where is Marriage Monday, you say? We’re just going to have to have another Marriage Tuesday. Because… Alisandra Photography was featured on United With Love on Friday!!!

It was such a sweet surprise and huge honor. This blog posts some of The District’s finest celebrations, and I’m very excited to be featured. Adrienne and David were engaged last year, and married two weekends ago in New Orleans. You may remember their engagement…

Thanks again, UWL!

We were at WPPI Road Trip in DC, and I just walked up to her. “Hi I’m Ali. We have a friend in common. I like your work.” And then we started talking and Katelyn started in on something about Jesus. “I don’t even know if you love Jesus!” she said. “I do.” Conversation continues. I promised to pray for good weather for 10.10.10, and that was that. Fast forward to WPPI Las Vegas. My roomates went home sick. I was so excited when Photographer’s Unite got together for a night of worship and fellowship because Katelyn and I reconnected and became friends. Not only is Katelyn a wonderful photographer, but she has this ability to talk to anyone. About anything. Even Jesus.

Katelyn, thanks so much for the Feature! You don’t have to do these things, but it is just ingrained in your character to want to give back to the industry that you’ve taken by storm! Check out her full post here.

I’ll let this be the official announcement. Most people know that we have moved to Charlottesville, VA, leaving the Williamson’s first home together [Winston Salem, NC]. We were so excited to get back to Virginia, especially Central Virginia. It makes us almost equidistant from both my parents and Chad’s parents. We love the mountains, the valley, good music, good food, and friends. Charlottesville has all of those things and so we are so incredibly grateful for such an awesome placement! God has answered our prayers and is continuing to do so.

On the business side of things, I am now [clearly] based out of Charlottesville! And if I can be totally honest about it, I’m so intimidated! Charlottesville has one of the most awesome wedding communities in Virginia. It is organized and very collaborative. In a small effort to get into the C-Ville groove, my friend Bridget and I put together a small styled shoot, featured yesterday on the Charlottesville Wedding Blog [a really fun resource, you Central VA brides!].

Thanks, Claire, for the wonderful feature!

I’ll be posting more from the shoot and more about Bridget and her lovely paper products tomorrow! Until then, spend some time with the Charlottesville Wedding Blog!
