One Little Sandpiper

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Across the lonely beach we flit,
One little sandpiper and I,
And fast I gather, but by bit,
The scattered drift-wood, bleached and dry.
The wild waves reach their hands for it,
The wild wind raves, the tide runs high,
As up and down the beach we flit,
One little sandpiper and I.

~ “The Sandpiper” by Celia Thaxter [verse 1]

Amanda + Diron | Richmond Engagement Session

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Where should I begin? First, I suppose I’ll shake hands with Amanda, congratulating her on a Cowboy’s victory over the Redskins. [We'll get you next time.]

Diron and Amanda were friends. They served together with Intervarsity. They enjoyed football together. They enjoyed a mug of beer together. They were friends. But I’m not sure either of them were 100% ok with the results of the DTR meeting :) Because after graduation, I got wind that they were not just friends. They were DATING! Then, soon after, Chad was talking to Diron and he casually started talking about a ring. He was 100% confident, and I loved that. I love these photos because I not only see happiness, but I see history. I see a relationship that grew out of a friendship into romantic feelings into commitment. I’m excited they’ve had the opportunities to hang out. Serve with one another. Love the Lord and seek him about one another. I love you guys together!

Amanda, you have the cutest scrunched nose laugh ever!

Mindy + Giles | Charlottesville Virginia Wedding

Monday, September 26th, 2011

New Year’s Day, right after the Polar Plunge, Mindy asked me to be her wedding photographer over a homemade breakfast of bacon, berries, and vegetable frittata. I knew I wanted to. First, her fiance is Chad’s cousin.  Second, they were getting married in the Outer Banks. And I LOVE the beach… And third, Mindy and Giles are two people who make you feel so welcome. They love each other so much, and I wanted to be there to capture that!

Fast forward 9 months later. Hurricane Irene takes her toll on coastal North Carolina. The roads are washed away. The hotels are damaged. Mindy, still not loosing hope, sends a Facebook message saying not to worry! There are going to be ferries! But the damage was done, and Mindy, who had spent the last 9 months wedding planning, had to do it all again in less than two weeks. Girl has major skills.

Fast forward again. 9.10.11. They kept their wedding date the same. Planned their wedding to be at Beaver Creek in Crozet and their reception at Zo.Ca.Lo. It was an amazing feat, the still the day kept its meaning. Mindy and Giles were married in sunshine and spent their wedding night eating amazing food and dancing away to the tunes of DJ Williams Projekt.

The Lately

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Oh. Hey, blog! Remember me?

My new workout buddy, Brett, is an amazing writer. She is inspiring–often making me, a “you’ll never get past a 9th grade writing level” writer, feel…well…inspired. Go to her blog. You won’t be sorry.

A post she recently had was called, The Lately List. I need to do one. I’m not sure her reasoning behind writing, but mine is because I’m behind. A lot has happened. I have a lot to blog.

The Lately List

Today I washed the counters with vinegar. I hear it works better than strong cleaning chemicals, it’s cheaper, and environmentally friendly, so I tried it. Counters are clean, nose is singed, candles are lit.

There are certain things you can purchase in the cheap brand, and things you just can’t. Don’t buy the cheap laundry detergent.

I shot a wedding in Charlottesville! Blog post coming soon…

NCIS started a new season. Don’t call me from 8-10 Tuesdays–Leroy Jethro Gibbs [and LL Cool J], I’m all yours.

Last week I went to Kiawah Island in South Carolina. While there, I photographed a house recently built. This was the “front yard.”

I need to buy a tripod. I plan to make this purchase during my NYC trip in October–it will be my first trip to B&H aka camera Mecca.

Ali and Derrick. Blog post coming soon.

Chad and I bought a blender a few days ago. I made my first smoothie this morning, and it was wonderful.

Amanda and Diron. Richmond engagement session. Blog post coming soon.

Chad and I were models for Shay Cochrane’s photo workshop. It was a blast and you can see her images here.

Did I mention I went to Kiawah? Pano’s were a fav. This is a hole from The River Course. Blog post on those coming soon as well…

I think that is about it. I have a lot of editing to do, folks, but I’ll be better about blogging now that things are little bit back to normal!

Cheka + Michael | Washington DC Engagement Party

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

I met Cheka and Michael outside the Ronald Reagan Building on the corner of 13th and Penn. I had to follow my google maps and ask a few security guards to point me in the right direction. [I'm so not a city girl.] I knew I’d be looking for a girl in a party dress, and as Cheka and Michael casually walked up, looking so chic, I knew we’d be having a wonderful night! We snapped some portraits, and then the party started! I cannot thank A Gioia Event enough for their amazing work in planning and coordinating the party. The details were phenomenal, and the service was top notch. Enjoy some views from this Capitol event.

Event Planner: A Gioia Event | Venue + Catering: The Pavillion Room @ The Ronald Reagan Building | Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Lighting: Atmosphere Lighting | DJ: MyDeeJay | Florist: Silver Stems
