Resting

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Chad and I loved our family vacation last week. It was so amazing to have no responsibility and hang out by the pool, in the sand, in the water. But one thing we both seemed to feel was the lack of rest. We both felt more exhausted at the end of the week that we had anticipated. And we were slightly disappointed about it. Chad needs time away from the office, and I need time away from my computer, and we got that, so why didn’t we feel fulfilled?

Chad came to this wise conclusion. The beach cannot give you rest. Nor can regular time away from work. Or time with family. All of those things are so nice and such blessings! But lets be serious… and go to Hebrews 4. God talks about entering HIS rest. Do you remember when God said, “and God rested on the seventh day from all of His works?” God asks us to enter into that same rest.

There remains, therefore, a rest for the people of God.
For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from his.
~ Hebrews 4:9-10

The only way we can truly stop and REST is to commune with God. The crazy part is that we can do this WHILE we work. Of course there are times we are asked to be still, but we are to always be at peace, resting with our God.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
~ Matthew 11:28

Cassandra + Colton | Family Portrait

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

One of the perks as a photographer is family vacations. This being the first, I am still excited at the potential of next year’s portrait opportunities. I couldn’t decide if I would take out my camera “on vacation” or not. But I couldn’t help it.

Meet my Aunt Cassandra and Uncle Colton. They are the super couple in my opinion. They met at UNC, got married, and live in North Carolina. They have kept their love for one another and child-like humor in tact. Aunt Cassandra has an amazing young presence; she is beautiful, and looks adorable in anything [jealous!]. Uncle Colton is your everyday Carolina Boy. I’m not sure what that means, but when people mention Carolina, I think of Uncle Colton. His cool, calm, and collected presence, his ability to deal with any situation with grace, his Tar Heel obsession, and that subtle southern drawl. He has the most contagious laugh. EVER. This is just another branch of my family. Enjoy them as much as I do.

Shannon | Senior Portraits

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

I am so excited to show these. Partly because I’m RELATED to this beautiful girl. And also because I love the beach. So much. When Shannon send me a facebook message asking if I could do her Senior Portraits at Virginia Beach, I got SO excited. Beaches have so much wonderfulness packed into one setting. The sand is a crazy big reflector, the grass is a beautiful defuser, and the water is a perfect cool contrast to the orange sunset. Not to mention, I love working with high schoolers because they pay attention to style, watch popular TV shows [like America's Next Top Model], and are so easy going! Plus I get to feel like a kid again! Or, at least younger than 25 [gulp]. I got so many new outfit ideas from Shannon–I just need to fit *shopping spree* into my budget… Anyway, please enjoy these photos. Let me know your favorites, and tell where YOUR favorite location is!

This is what happens when you ask someone not to smile. They bust out laughing. And that is exactly what I wanted :)

And down to the beach…

SHOT OF THE DAY! GoodNESS look at those eyes. Er…eye.

Love this natural smile!

Last week came upon me in a sort of “all of a sudden” way. Do you feel the need to leave a clean house? I sure do. I had a list of chores I needed to accomplish before I went to the beach. Things like vacuum, wash the kitchen floor, finish the laundry…but come Friday, I still had quite a few. One of my chores was to write a blog post explaining that I’d be absent: FAIL. But, now you know. I WAS AT THE BEACH!

The Zangas’s took over Virginia Beach. My grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all together for the first time ever [besides my wedding and Christmas's eons ago]. We had a blast, even though it was one of the hottest weeks in the history of Virginia. The down time was awesome, and the lack of responsibility was savored!

While down there, my beautiful cousin Shannon asked me to do her Senior Portraits. We skipped Pizza Night and drove around Sandbridge, chasing the wonderful light that all beaches have to offer. More to come, but I wanted to give you a taste at the beginning of the week!

Andrew | Newborn

Friday, July 15th, 2011

A ton of my friends are pregnant. I guess it is the next big thing in life once you get married! Ricki and Ben found out they were pregnant, and 9 months later welcomed little Andrew into the world. I had a very short visit with him, but saw about a million different faces. Ricki explained that he takes a LONG time to wake up. I mean, how long could a little baby take? Well. He stretches, and blinks, and goes cross-eyed, frowns, smiles, and stretches some more, then goes back to sleep for a little… and the process starts over again. It is amazing that God can create something with so much personality at only a few days old!

Congrats, Ricki and Ben! Andrew is a trip, and I can’t wait to see him grow up!

Nic + Silvia | Northern Virginia Wedding

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

“The entire Campaña family!” I shouted above the excitement. The sanctuary of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church was buzzing because the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Campaña had married Nic only minutes earlier.

“Is this your first cuban wedding?” One of the guests, and member of the family asked me, slightly smiling. Yes. It was. I think he was making fun of the fact that I had no idea what I asked for when I asked for the ENTIRE Campaña family…

Although the church was loud and everyone was cheering, you can’t help but notice Silvia and Nic’s quiet love. Silvia is the oldest of three sisters, but she is not your typical “run the show” older sister… [No offense, older sisters. Feel free to poke fun at only children]. She is the definition of patient and kind, and was one of the most easy going brides I will probably ever work with. “The light is nice outsite… want to go take some pictures?” “Sure!” Nic is fun–up for anything type of guy, and the perfect addition to Silvia. They are so sweet and gentle together. Anyway. Back to what I was saying. I am not sure about other Cuban families, but there are like, a million Campañas. The photo turned out wonderful, but it was funny watching as 30…40…50 people slowly strolled up onto the altar to take the family photo. “Is that it?” “No!!!”

It was my first Cuban wedding. But definitely not my last!

Check out Dad’s suit. Tails and all–100% inspired by Prince Harry’s attire at the royal wedding. So chic!

University of Virginia | Styled Shoot

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

A few weeks ago, I collaborated with Bridget from the Ink Parade Paperie. Using our little creative minds, and a lot of help from Pinterest, we put together this do it yourself styled shoot. We threw around a few ideas for a theme, but quickly settled on, non other than, a University of Virginia theme. Orange and Blue. Books. Pearls. Monograms. Grounds. The Lawn. Our vision came together in the cutest way. I’ll talk about the details as they come up…

INVITATION SUITE
This was Bridget’s huge contribution. She just recently started a wonderful little custom invitation shop. She is a wonderful illustrator as well as designer, so if you are looking for some crazy cool unique invitations, this is your girl. I mean, just look at the monogram! From the argyle envelope liner, to the badminton birdies on the reception card… this girl understands personalized details!

DRESS
This is the Dune dress from J.Crew. This is one way to get use out of your wedding dress a 3rd time! [First is, of course, bridal portraits, Second is your wedding, and third, lend it to a photographer for a styled shoot!]

BOUQUET
Believe it or not, grocery stores have a fun selection of flowers! Used here are Harris Teeter spray roses, baby’s breath, and eryngium. I put this little bouquet together by watching a few “how to’s” on youtube!

CAKE & TOPPER
Being slightly uneducated in the cake department, I googled, “how to make fondant.” I lucked out because one of the first recipes that came up was how to do a Marshmallow Fondant. And it was SO easy. It tasted awesome and had a marshmallow-y texture. Thankfully the real fondant recipe didn’t pop up because I’ve since heard that it is a little complicated and tricky to do! So if you’re looking for an easy fondant, go for the marshmallow one! And for the curious, the cake was orange supreme out of a box! The topper, again, by the awesome Ink Parade Paperie. I am so in love with the monogram.

BOUTONNIERE
Bridget is again responsible for this cute thing. She picked up two ties from a thrift store and, after watching a few “how to make a fabric boutonniere” tutorials, sat down and threw this baby together in a matter of 30 minutes. How cute?!

GUESTBOOK
Here is the idea: Write a note to the couple and hide it in a book. Pencils provided. A great way to elaborate on an academic theme!

If you read this and have any questions, or just want to talk about your favorite part, please feel free to leave a comment! I loved working with another vendor to put this little shoot together, and am looking forward to many more collaborative efforts in the future!

Featured | Charlottesville Wedding Blog

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

I’ll let this be the official announcement. Most people know that we have moved to Charlottesville, VA, leaving the Williamson’s first home together [Winston Salem, NC]. We were so excited to get back to Virginia, especially Central Virginia. It makes us almost equidistant from both my parents and Chad’s parents. We love the mountains, the valley, good music, good food, and friends. Charlottesville has all of those things and so we are so incredibly grateful for such an awesome placement! God has answered our prayers and is continuing to do so.

On the business side of things, I am now [clearly] based out of Charlottesville! And if I can be totally honest about it, I’m so intimidated! Charlottesville has one of the most awesome wedding communities in Virginia. It is organized and very collaborative. In a small effort to get into the C-Ville groove, my friend Bridget and I put together a small styled shoot, featured yesterday on the Charlottesville Wedding Blog [a really fun resource, you Central VA brides!].

Thanks, Claire, for the wonderful feature!

I’ll be posting more from the shoot and more about Bridget and her lovely paper products tomorrow! Until then, spend some time with the Charlottesville Wedding Blog!
