John + Jenna | Potomac Maryland Wedding

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Man. Weddings keep getting better and better. Each one I shoot I think, “This one. THIS one was my favorite.” But I think it is the wedding photographer’s hang over. We never seem to leave the honeymoon stage. I go home with love and a new appreciation for my husband with every wedding I shoot. But THIS wedding. This one was my favorite. There were so many moments. So many things to laugh over, praise God for, and cry about. Jenna and John are in Jamaica right now, but on Saturday, the two wrapped their strings around each other’s and pulled carefully, tightly, but beautifully. Their lives are officially tied together, and their wedding represented them to a T.

John slipped a note for Jenna under the door. As she picks up the note to read it, the iPod chooses Dave Barnes’ Nothing Fancy. Everyone’s eyes filled up with tears as Jenna does her best to hold herself together.

Jenna’s mom arrived in spirit, preceding Jenna down the aisle in a picture on her bouquet.

John. You are too cool. Not only did you fist pump after being announced as Husband and Wife, you said, “THAT WAS AWESOME! I LOVED THAT!” That was your response to your ceremony. TOO perfect.

I love shooting with a second shooter. SO fun. I had the pleasure of having Kristen Finn second shoot for me. And while I was going wide, Kristen went tight with the photo after these…

The GORGEOUS bridal party. Y’all are so anthro.

Jenna, did the invite say, “A wedding and a Dance Party?” Well, they got the memo.

Broken to Beautiful

Monday, June 20th, 2011

A few months ago, I went to a luncheon to help raise money for women who have been swept up in the wave of sex slavery. Properly named Broken to Beautiful, the money from the event went toward a building that would serve as a shelter, a home, and a rehabilitation center for these women. The program supports these ladies on their journey to be able to see themselves as beautiful again, and to know that God can restore their bodies and souls. It was an amazing event, kicked off by a silent auction, a beautiful lunch, and fashion show.

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.
~ Isaiah 61:1-3

Jen + Josh | Harrisonburg Virginia Wedding

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

“I’m channeling Kate Middleton,” said Jen as we walked in to the music room at Blessed Sacrament in downtown Harrisonburg. I believed her. Because at that moment, it was pouring rain. Thundering. But Jen was all smiles. Probably because she was getting married to her boyfriend and best friend of 9 years. Yes. That must be what it was.

The day began with a frenzy of beautiful girls at a nearby hotel. Soon both the guys and the ladies were at the church waiting and welcoming guests. The rain stopped, and the sun lit up the church just in time for Jen to walk down the aisle. The entire day was filled with laughter, surprises, and rainbows. [Literally. I saw three rainbows.] I am so honored to have been a part of this wedding. It was also nice being able to visit JMU. Jen and Josh, you guys rock!

Even Duke Dog made an appearance!

LOVED the father daughter dance. It started out nice and slow…

And the Soulja Boy came on… and then Billy Jean… and then…

Jen and Josh, thanks so much for an awesome night with so many beautiful moments. You made me feel like part of the family!!

Joy + Brown | South Carolina Wedding

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

“Joy wants to know if you’ll shoot her wedding,” is the question I got from my best friend [sister in law of the newly engaged Joy]. Honored? Stoked? Blessed? Those were a few words that came to mind. So there we were. June 4th I’d be in Abbeville, South Carolina with one of my favorite families in the world. And thats not just a wedding photographer making exagerations about her clients. This is actually one of my favorite families. The Cains are the most humble, warm, welcoming people. And Joy is no exception. She laughs at herself and makes you feel important. And she has no idea how beautiful she is. “I’m not very photogenic,” she says. Right. Ok.

Anyway, I arrived in South Carolina with my second shooter the night before the wedding. Because of how small the town is, our only options for lodging were a few bed and breakfasts. Which was perfect. The Bernibrooks Inn [another blog post coming about this amazing place], a recommendation from the Cains, was just a block from both the wedding and reception. And with all of it’s South Carolinian charm, the inn was a great choice. A big ol’ porch for the evenings, and AC for the hot days. And boy was it hot. June 4th isn’t exactly mid summer, but there’s no convincing the weather. All said, we had a beautiful day.

This was one of my favorite moments. This is Joy and Brown behind a curtain. The next photo is of Caroline, Joy’s sister blowing on her eyes so she would stop crying!

A few “OMG I’m about to get married!!!” jitters…

Married!

Riding in their SURPRISE horse drawn carriage!
